There are two news: good and bad. The good news is that there will be a lot of decent games in 2021, the interests of many will be satisfied. The bad news is that the time to go through them will almost certainly not be enough, since the Belarusians are not getting less trouble. Below we list some of the notable games of 2021. In the comments, you can add projects that, in your opinion, also deserve attention.
It should be borne in mind that the further along the timeline the release of the game, the higher the chances of its transfer.
1. Hitman 3
Released on January 20, 2021 for Windows, PS4 , PS5 , Stadia, Xbox One , Xbox Series X / S , Nintendo Switch .
In Hitman 3, the player will again have to try on the suit of a highly skilled assassin who fights evil in his own way. The new game will be the final in a trilogy that launched in 2016. All three parts are interconnected, gamers will be able to import saves from the past – the progress made will come in handy.
Hitman 3 will feature six new locations, including Dubai, English Dartmoor and Chinese Chongqing. Here you will have to show all your skill, using a variety of methods of sophisticated elimination of opponents.
2. The Medium
Released January 28 for Windows and Xbox Series X / S.
Psychological thriller studio Bloober Team (Blair Witch, Observer). The main character is a medium who is haunted by visions of the murder of a child. To find answers to all questions, able to move between the world of the living and the world of spirits, Marianne goes to an abandoned hotel-boarding house, where the tragedy occurred.
Work on the project began in 2012, but was postponed until better times and for the sake of a complete redesign of the concept. As the developers assure, this was good for The Medium: the game has noticeably added in terms of atmosphere. The soundtrack written by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill) and Arkadiusz Reikovsky will also contribute to this. The latter was inspired by the series “Chernobyl” and “Stranger Things”.
It can be very interesting.
It is released on April 1 (the day before it was announced that it was postponed from February 2) for Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and later for Stadia.
Third-person shooter with RPG elements (where without them). In particular, it will be possible to talk here, but all this chatter does not affect the plot – the appendage, in general. And so – the usual plot, which will talk about the attempt of mankind to colonize another planet inhabited by aliens (unexpectedly, right?).
An energy storm occurs, and everyone suddenly gains superpowers. Therefore, the classes for choosing are appropriate: Trickster manipulates time, Pyromancer controls fire, Devastator itself is a seismic weapon, Technomancer is also not simple.
Developed by People Can Fly, so in theory it can be fun and perky.
4. Monster Hunter Rise
Coming March 26 for Nintendo Switch .
We included it in the list of variety for. The hype around the switch has subsided, but the fans of the platform have not gone anywhere. Monster Hunter Rise is a role-playing game in which the gamer needs to hunt fantastic creatures using various techniques, weapons and environment features, while remaining alive along the way.
In the new game, the loading of locations occurs imperceptibly, creating the feeling of a large open and immediately accessible world. Also, the developers added “verticality” to the locations – you will have to jump upward more often than in previous games in the series.
Monster Hunter Rise has both single player and multiplayer, when up to four Hunters can gather in a group.
5. King’s Bounty II
Coming in March for Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
The original King’s Bounty can be partly called a legend, but since then a lot of water has flown under the bridge and the cult game is not remembered so often (although the universe sometimes gives rise to new attempts to return it to its former glory). In 2019, King’s Bounty II was announced with plans to release it in 2020. Corona , the pandemic – all this affected the schedule, so the wait took longer.
The action of King’s Bounty 2 will unfold in the vastness of Nostria – a once great kingdom, now oppressed by bandits, monsters and dark forces called Doom. One of the three main characters will have to take matters into their own hands and fight evil. The player will have a non-linear plot, events in which will depend on the decisions made and the chosen path of character development.
Completing the story will take about 25-30 hours, additional quests will increase this time by one and a half to two times.
The gameplay is divided into two classic phases: exploration of the world from the third person, when the player explores the environment and completes tasks. The battles will take place with a familiar top view, but in the new part, the developers promise voluminous battlefields with detailed relief and 3D models of troops. The number of fighters on the screen will correspond to the actual size of the squad.
6. Far Cry 6
Coming this spring for Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Stadia and Amazon Luna.
Dictator Anton Castillo and his son Diego – here they are, the main villains (the eldest for sure). Anton grows up a replacement for himself: the boy must replace him at his post and continue the work he has begun – to crush, destroy, mock and humiliate. So he tries to prove that the people need a strong hand. But in order to preserve his personal paradise world, Anton will not hesitate to sacrifice his people.
Dani Rojas (the main character) will have to trample the lands of the fictional country of Yar somewhere in the Caribbean in order to rein in the bandit regime. The developers promise a huge game map – more than in previous games in the series, but otherwise, in terms of gameplay, the new Far Cry is not much different from the previous ones.
The exact release date of the game has not been determined – Ubisoft itself is confused, indicating on the official website both February 18 (this is outdated data) and “will be released soon.” Presumably in April, but this is not certain.
Coming May 21 for Windows and PlayStation 5.
A shooter from renowned developers – the Arkane studio, behind which the Dishonored series , as well as the games Prey and Wolfenstein: Youngblood . Originally published by Bethesda (owned by ZeniMax, which is owned by Microsoft), the project was planned as a temporary console exclusive. But the release was postponed from 2020 to 2021, and it is not yet clear whether the condition remains in effect (most likely not).
The word “loop” in the title indicates games with time: the main character Colt will be locked in a temporal trap. The environment does not bode well either: the islet of Blackrif was once a military base where strange experiments were carried out. It was they who caused the “loop” to appear, and only Colt retains the memory of recurring events.
The rest live events over and over again, remaining in the dark – pleasant, participating in a party. To avoid another “rezet”, the mercenary needs to remove eight targets, having studied the models of their behavior during the preliminary cycles. The main thing is not to die yourself, otherwise everything will start anew.
8. Halo Infinite
Coming to Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S. The exact date is unknown, the release was planned for December 2020, then it was postponed to “late 2021” .
A shooter with a long history and a loyal audience. Halo Infinite will be the sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, simultaneously launching new adventures for the Master Chief. Microsoft, of course, calls the game “the greatest adventure to save all of humanity.” However, there are no specific details about the project yet.
But it was previously shown that the assault armor of the Master Chief “Mjolnir” returned to basics, having received designs from Halo 2 and Halo 3. There will be other pleasant references to the past for the fans of the franchise.
9. Horizon Forbidden West
Will be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. There is no exact date, the window is announced: the second half of the year . Most likely in the fall.
Well, this will be the continuation of the story started in Horizon Zero Dawn: the female warrior Aloy will go on another journey through the post-apocalyptic world of the future, inhabited by strange robots. Now she wants to find the source of the infection that kills everything she gets to. It is clear that on the way, Eloy will have to fight new unknown creatures, opening up new territories with a varied climate.
Once again, the developers promise an “even wider world” to explore – sounds like a mantra to ensure audience acceptance.
10. Resident Evil Village
Coming to Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021 .
According to the description, the game will unfold a few years after the events described in Resident Evil 7. The main character Ethan Winters returned to his normal life, which he enjoys with his wife. However, Ethan’s past does not let go, and because of Chris Redfield, he finds himself in a mysterious snow-covered village somewhere in Europe. This is where everything will happen.
11. Ghostwire: Tokyo
Coming out in 2021 for PlayStation 5 and PC .
The game impressed us at one time thanks to crazy trailers – it looks very cool, gameplay videos are also not far behind. Ghostwire: Tokyo is positioned as an action-adventure game, somewhat reminiscent of Prey (at first glance) and similar titles.
The gamer will have to fight ghosts and other otherworldly creatures (people somehow disappeared almost completely) in Japanese Tokyo, using their own psychic and generally paranormal abilities. As follows from the description, along the way, the main character will meet mysterious personalities in masks of Hannya (“represents a terrible grin of a jealous woman, demon or snake”). They are one of the keys to solving the mystery.
It looks exciting.
12. Gotham Knights
It will be released in 2021 for the Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and the Xbox the X the Series .
There is not much information about the Gotham Knights, but you cannot become Batman in it: he plays his game and died altogether. Images of Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing and Batgirl can be taken here. For a start, this is quite enough. Someone from this company (to choose from) will have to clean up all the problems that have flooded the city due to the absence of Bruce Wayne. And Jim Gordon, who also died.
The members of the Court of Owls group, in particular the Assassins, will oppose the heroes in leggings, tights and other fashionable attire. As the skill of the gamer character grows, opponents will also improve their skills – the main thing is not to be too clever with difficulty. In Gotham Knights, a single is implemented and the ability to play the game in tandem with a second gamer.
13. God of War: Ragnarök
Coming to PlayStation 5 in 2021 .
Adventure game, which, among other things, should demonstrate all the charms and capabilities of the new Sony game console.
Traditionally, the game will be based on the legends of Scandinavian mythology, Kratos and his son Atrei will go to the world of adventures of ancient Norway. Apparently, this couple will arrange another show: their actions will lead to Ragnarok – the death of the gods and the end of the world. Or they won’t.
Long before its release, God of War: Ragnarök was named one of the most anticipated games of 2021. Let’s check.
14. Syberia: The World Before
The developer only promises to release the game in 2021 . The new adventures of Kate Walker were announced back in 2019 – two years after the release of the not very successful Syberia 3. The events of the game will take place, apparently, in several time intervals: in 1937 and 2004.
The chances of transferring to next year are high. Expectations too.
15. Hogwarts Legacy
Coming in 2021 for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
Probably, this ARPG game is aimed primarily at fans of Harry Potter and others like him, and there are definitely a lot of them. Gamers are waiting for the magic and fantasy world of the past – somewhere near the end of the 19th century.
Given the time chosen, it is clear that Harry Potter itself is unlikely to appear there. The player will have to try on a wizard’s cloak, arm himself with a magic wand and learn the wisdom of witchcraft at Hogwarts.
16. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Coming January 21 for Windows, PS4 and Xbox One.
No revelations, this is just a remake. Moreover, he has a chance “not to enter”: the audience complained in advance about the outwardly outdated graphics – the developers said that this was a trick.
17. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Will be released in the first half of the year for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
This is a remaster of the original trilogy, which was announced in the fall of 2020 along with the new game in the Mass Effect universe. ME: Legendary Edition is optimized for 4K resolution and will include add-ons for single-user mode. All in all – “combed” in a modern way, the best part of the Mass Effect franchise.
18. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood. It comes out on February 4th for Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One , Xbox Series X / S.
You will have to play as an eco-terrorist and a werewolf at the same time, who decided to fight one of the corporations because of the pollution of the surrounding world. Such is the struggle for the environment. Action, soulful conversations, werewolves, robots, high technology and the approaching darkness await us. Everything is like in life.
19. Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. Coming early this year for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
For fans of games where there is a lot of stealth and you can indulge in plenty of sniper rifle. This is the sixth game in the series, which still does not get out of the level “well, it will do”, although it tries very hard. The problems are often of a technical nature, and the plot suffers. Maybe it will be better this time.
20. Gran Turismo 7. Coming out in 2021 for PlayStation 5.
If it weren’t for the coronavirus, the date would probably have already been set. Otherwise you have to suffer and wait. If, of course, this racing is on your lists of “very important games for the soul.” They say the developers will bring back many of the classic chips of past games to please fans to play alone.
21. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Coming in 2021 for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S.
An action-adventure thriller with an exciting plot – this is how the publisher positions the game. Gollum is called one of the most interesting characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings. True, he has a problem – a couple of personalities: villainous, cunning and sociable-cautious. This “couple” – Gollum and Smeagol – will be looking for one very famous item.
22. Aragami 2. Will be released either in early 2021, or later for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
It’s a mixture of stealth, adventure and action. The main character is an assassin hidden in the shadows, able to use the semi-darkness to his advantage. His goal is to protect his homeland from foreign invaders. Interesting graphic component, then calm, then raging gameplay.
23. Chivalry 2. Will be released in 2021 simultaneously for Windows, Xbox One, Xbox One Series X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The developers call their multiplayer slasher a “real sequel” to the original Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. In addition, according to them, the pandemic has played in favor of the project: it will have more maps and various features, only horses will appear after the launch. But even without them, it will be possible to dominate and humiliate, at the same time punishing.
24. Shadow Warrior 3. Coming out in 2021 for Windows.
Not just another slasher, as the name might seem to those unfamiliar with the series. This is a shooter (but with a katana), also inspired by Chinese and Japanese cultures. The game designer of the project calls Shadow Warrior 3 an improved version of the 2013 restart – the game has become lighter, more convenient and more logical.
25. Everspace 2. Coming into Early Access for PC on January 18 , full version in 2022. Also out for Linux, macOS, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
A sequel to a space simulator with shooting and resource gathering. A beautiful, fast-paced game with pirates, puzzles, treasures and secrets. Unlike other cosmos (we’re not hinting at Star Citizen of course), Everspace 2 is just around the corner.
26. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Released in the first half of 2021 for PlayStation 5.
A platform shooter from a series with a long history. The developers call it a standalone game, but with references to other projects – for the amusement of fans of the franchise. Journalists who have already played Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart call it “Pixar interactive cartoons”: the production, the graphics – everything worked out with a bang.
27. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. Coming in 2021 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
“In a detective thriller set on a dangerous exotic island, young Sherlock Holmes investigates the mysterious death of his mother and tries to find his place in life,” the publisher describes the game. Then he adds that Sherlock Holmes is still young and very ambitious, so he takes up the investigation of cases with increased zeal.
28. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine. No release date has been announced. Probably coming out this year .
This is a three-player tactical co-op shooter set years later in the Rainbow Six universe. After watching the trailer, you can estimate what kind of setting the developers have prepared. It is intriguing, but only in the context of mixing genres: will it work?
