The ten differences between the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max from the iPhone XS and XS Max

Yesterday, Apple introduced the new iPhone lineup, which included three smartphones: the budget iPhone 11, as well as the flagship iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. All devices are the successors of last year’s iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models. In appearance, the devices are very similar to previous versions, except for another block of cameras. But in fact, the difference is much more serious. We have compiled a list of ten differences between new flagships and old ones.

At the presentation, Apple devoted the most time to cameras. Apparently, they really did a lot of work on them. The flagship iPhone camera is represented by three sensors. All of them are 12 megapixels and support 4K: one main (26 mm, f / 1.8), another ultra wide angle (13 mm, f / 2.4, viewing angle 120 degrees) and the third telephoto (52 mm, f / 2.0).

In smartphones, a full-fledged night mode debuted – a parameter by which the iPhone XS was inferior to other devices. Now the camera and software perfectly draw the picture: the system takes up to nine frames even before you press the shutter button to capture as much detail and light as possible, and then glues the most successful parts of the photos into a single shot. The front camera now also received 12 megapixels and learned to shoot in 4K, as well as make slow motion video.

But the main thing is shooting a video. The smartphone is capable of recording on multiple cameras at the same time, for example, on a selfie camera and wide-angle. This opens up new possibilities for recording videos – a quick change of plans, focus on details at exactly the right time. True, the software from FiLMiC, which will do this, will appear later in the fall.

The iPhone XS and XS Max had batteries with a capacity of approximately 2658 mAh and 3174 mAh, respectively. The battery capacity of the new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max was not announced at the presentation, but the operating time increased by four and five hours, respectively, compared with the XS and XS Max. It’s all about the more energy-efficient A13 Bionic chip, display and optimized software.

It happened: a quick charge comes with the new iPhone. Recall that the technology itself debuted in the iPhone 8 and X, but it was possible to use it only with a separate unit – suitable from a Macbook, for example. Now the problem is a thing of the past: in the box with the flagships there is an 18 W charger (50% of the charge will be replenished in half an hour) and a Lightning / USB-C cable. Unfortunately, the budget iPhone 11 got the old charge.

Apple introduced the new A13 Bionic chip. This is the most powerful processor that the company has ever installed on the iPhone – however, there is no sensation here. Moreover, Apple said that the A13 Bionic is generally the most powerful chip for smartphones, even when compared with the Snapdragon 855 and other processors. The chip fit 8.5 billion transistors. There are still six cores: two for performance, four for efficiency. The engine that processes the neural networks is capable of performing a trillion operations per second. All this is necessary, including for the advanced operation of the camera.

If the iPhone X came in two colors (black and white), and the XS also got a golden hue, then the iPhone 11 Pro appeared in four versions – dark green (Midnight Green) was added to the XS palette. Moreover, the back cover became matte, and the cameras were carried out in a separate transparent unit. The company also says that the glass has become even stronger.

The screen diagonals remained the same: 5.8 inches on the iPhone 11 Pro and 6.5 inches on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. But OLED matrices are different: the contrast has been doubled, now it is 2,000,000: 1, while energy efficiency has grown by 15%. By the way, the glass should become even stronger – Apple claim that it is the most durable among smartphones.

3D touch

New flagships were left without 3D Touch. Technology debuted in the iPhone 6S. She distinguishes between a normal touch of the screen and a strong tap on it. Thus, the company realized quick access to popular application functions: they pressed the “Messages” icon – and immediately it is proposed to send SMS to selected contacts. Now the chip has been removed, and the “kick” from the Taptic Engine is triggered when you hold your finger on the display.

In size, smartphones seem the same as their predecessors, but the cases are slightly different. So, the dimensions of the iPhone 11 Pro are 144 × 71.4 × 8.1 mm, while the iPhone XS they are 143.6 × 70.9 × 7.7 mm. The weight has also changed – 188 grams against the previous 177 grams. The dimensions of the iPhone 11 Pro Max also differ from the XS Max: 158 × 77.8 × 8.1 mm instead of the old 157.5 × 77.4 × 7.7 mm. The new Max became heavier than before – 226 grams (it was 208 grams).

Face id

Apple is improving Face ID with every generation. Now the technology works 30% faster compared to the iPhone XS, and your smartphone recognizes your appearance at greater angles, for example, when the device is on the table.

Wi-Fi 6

Apple mentioned in passing that the new generation of iPhone supports Wi-Fi 6. Hypothetically, connection speeds of up to 9.6 Gb / s are possible, while the theoretical maximum of Wi-Fi 5 is only 3.5 Gb / s.

New iPhones will be available on September 20. The 11 Pro model costs from $ 999 for a version with 64 GB of memory, the iPhone 11 Pro Max model is priced at $ 1099 (64 GB).
