On April 3 of this year, a message came to the number of a minor girl with a proposal to get free “votes” for VKontakte. In fact, the author of SMS misled the teenager, the Investigative Committee of Belarus reports .
Each response to a fraudster’s message cost six rubles. For the entire duration of the correspondence, the unknown fished for more than 1,400 rubles. The Osipovichsky district department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article “Fraud”.
Similar cases of fraud have already occurred in Belarus. Earlier, operator A1 warned users about a criminal scheme, but noted that such cases cannot be called massive:
– This case cannot be called massive, because it is the result of using a paid service on the site www.vk.com. At the same time, the fact of delivery of SMS requests sent by the user is confirmed by information received from the technical support service of the content provider serving short numbers.
To receive this or that service on www.vk.com, the user needs to pre-order it on the website, indicating his mobile phone number. Upon the fact of such an order, an SMS notification is sent to the subscriber indicating the cost of the service he has chosen and a request to confirm his intention to use the paid service by sending the word “DA” to the corresponding service number.
Since the service of sending messages from velcom | A1 was provided, its cost was deducted from the balance of the personal account of the subscriber in full. At the same time, taking into account the explanations provided by the content provider, and also taking into account the fact that the child used the phone, we settled the situation with the specified client individually.
