11 main features iPadOS. The tablet turns into a computer

The iOS 13 mobile operating system presented at WWDC 2019 brought more than 50 useful and not very useful chips to the iPhone.

The list of innovations is not the most impressive, except for the dark theme, the volume control indicator and the swipe keyboard have nothing more to do.

IPad has got much more innovations, because of the large number of differences the operating system for tablets even assigned their name – iPadOS .

Now we will tell about all the innovations that have appeared in the first beta version of the system.

1. Widgets moved to the main screen

Great idea that could be implemented on the iPhone. On the iPad, this has been asking for since the appearance of a separate screen with information blocks from applications.

Widgets were not allowed to be placed freely between the icons, but a small column with useful information was added.

Widgets can be scrolled with a vertical swipe, favorites can be pinned at the top of the list.

It’s great that you have provided two options for displaying the panel: permanent and hidden. In the first case, the first page of the home screen will display the blocks all the time, and in the second, in order to make them appear, you need to take another side swipe, just like to go to the widgets page earlier.

Portrait orientation while working crookedly, and in landscape everything is super. The chip turned out to be suitable, we are waiting for the resumption of the forgotten iOS chip and the emergence of new useful informers.

2. Comfortable control gestures have appeared.

For more comfortable working with the text added four gestures with three fingers. The chip hit the iPhone, but no one will use it on a small screen when working with one hand.

Another thing is working with the tablet. Hold three fingers to the left – cancel input or last action. We lead to the right – we return / repeat the action.

Mixing and breeding with three fingers allows you to quickly copy and paste data. This is very convenient when working with text, so as not to wait for the pop-up menu to appear.

3. Icons on the desktop has become more

The developers have finally reworked the iOS interface for the iPad instead of trivially stretching the image on the big screen.

The grid of icons has changed: instead of the location of 4×5 applications 6×5 are placed. Firstly , 30 icons are placed on one screen instead of 20 earlier.

Secondly , the icons themselves have become smaller, it looks much better, especially on large tablet models.

Thirdly , the grid with icons is equally located in portrait and landscape orientations. If the icon in the same orientation was in the upper right corner, then there it will remain when the tablet is rotated 90 degrees.

4. Screenshot editor is better than most photo editors.

And without that, a good screen capture editor is even better. Now, for actions with a screenshot, you do not even have to save it to the gallery.

Right after the snapshot is taken, the whole panel is available with all kinds of tools, rulers, lasso for selection and other things.

The panel conveniently moves to any place on the screen and hides if necessary. The chip must be made available to third-party developers so that it can be embedded into other applications.

No more need to install basic editors for processing screenshots.

5. Safari Browser Seriously Downloaded

Now the standard web page viewer displays a full version of the site with adaptation to the width of the display, instead of the trimmed mobile version for the iPhone.

All content and page chips to our services. There is a side menu with tags, sections of the site and other useful information. You can completely abandon the application YouTube, Google Drive and other services, carrying out work with them through a browser, like on a computer.

In the settings page you can display the mobile version, hide the browser toolbar for full-screen surfing and quickly change the size of the text on the page.

6. In Split View mode, you can run the same applications.

The display mode of the two applications on the screen is also reworked. Now the tablet can simultaneously work with a pair of identical programs.

So you can build two windows with mail, notes, reminders or a browser for comfortable work on the device. Of course, convenient dragging of content between windows is supported.

In this case, in the panel of ambiguity, both a separate application in full-screen mode and a program in Split View mode can be displayed. This allows you to quickly switch between pre-defined work scenarios.

7. Slide Over mode has become more convenient

The blend mode of the second or third application at the side of the screen has become much more useful. Now the panel is quickly hidden and displayed with a swipe.

Program management in it is carried out by gestures, as in the iPhone X. Swipe at the bottom of the window switches applications, and swipe up from the bottom border shows all the programs from Slide Over.

Unnecessary application can be discarded, leaving two or three necessary.

8. Added display of windows in multitasking mode.

With this set of features to launch applications, you can easily get lost in the windows. Developers have provided the ability to quickly view all open copies of any of the applications.

Launch the ambiguity panel, hold down the application icon for the dock for a second and see a new context menu item.

After clicking we will get all the windows where this application is launched independently or together with another program.

9. iPad has learned to work with the mouse

What happened is what many Apple Tablet users have been waiting for.

Cupertino people have added support for wired and wireless manipulators to their iPadOS. This is not very convenient and logical, the chip is in the Universal Access menu , which means, first of all, it is aimed at users with disabilities.

After connecting via Bluetooth, activate the AssistiveTouch option in the settings. A plain cursor appears on the screen. You can make it even more and change the color of the edging.

There are options for changing the speed of the cursor.

The left button at the same time fulfills tapping on the screen, the right one displays the AssistiveTouch menu (there you can add, for example, creating a screenshot, turning the screen, changing the volume, multitasking panel and other options), and the middle one returns to the home screen. In most applications, the scroll wheel is running.

With the mouse, you can make all one-finger gestures in the system: call the notification center, go back to the previous page in the browser, display the dock, etc.

Even in some games you can already control it with the mouse cursor, cool!

10. Files application has become really useful.

The standard file manager in iOS has long been a strange and useless program. Third-party utilities from the App Store offered many times more options for managing data.

With the release of iPadOS, everything has changed. Now without the Files application it is difficult to imagine comfortable work with the tablet.

The utility received a convenient view of displaying data in the form of columns, similar to the Finder from macOS. Quickly navigating through data directories becomes much easier.

Together and a full-fledged download manager for Safari, working with data on the tablet goes to the desktop level.

11. iPad made friends with flash drives

Removable drives and previously you can connect to the tablet Apple. It could be Lightning flash drives , Type-C media for iPad Pro 2018, or ordinary USB flash drives connected via an adapter.

The system allowed to import photos from the drive to the gallery, and in software from flash drive developers it was possible to work with data on the native disk.

Now the connected media is fully supported by the application Files with the ability to transfer any data to the memory of the tablet and back.

We are delighted with these changes in iOS 13 or iPadOS. The iPad really turns into a serious work tool.
