Volvo will limit the maximum speed of its cars to 180 km / h

The changes will take effect on all models by 2020.

By 2020, Volvo will set a maximum speed limit of 180 km / h on all its models. About this told representatives of the company.

From 2020 on all cars of the Swedish brand, the maximum possible speed will be 180 km / h.

The problem with speeding is that after a certain indication of the vehicle’s speedometer and a thoughtful road infrastructure is no longer able to prevent serious injuries and death in the event of an accident.

The company said they consider themselves safety leaders behind the wheel. “Limiting the maximum speed in a car is not a panacea, but we consider it a necessary measure – even if it is to save a single life,” said Volvo Cars CEO Håkan Samuelsson.

The restriction applies to Germany, where there is no speed limit on the part of the autobahn. “There is no reason why you would drive a Volvo faster than 180 km / h. On the German autobahn, many accidents also occur due to speeding – in the context of Germany, most likely this means that the speed was much higher than 180 km / h, ” said Samuelsson in a conversation with Bloomberg.

In addition to the global limitation, Volvo is thinking about speed control systems based on geo-zoning — for example, to automatically slow down near schools and hospitals.

Among other factors, which often cause problems behind the wheel, Volvo called drunk driving and carelessness behind the wheel. The company promised to provide solutions to combat them on March 20.
