Tesla 3: you definitely want this electric car

Compare the budget electric car with German competitors.

March 31, 2016 the head of Tesla Motors Elon Musk showed the world the future of electric vehicles. The American genius and billionaire introduced from the stage of the California design center Tesla a new budget electric car – Model 3.

The car novelty aroused unprecedented interest among potential buyers; a month after the announcement, the company issued 400,000 (!) Pre-orders for a budget sedan.

In July 2017 (that is, literally in a month), the production of Model 3 will be launched in test mode. We decided to collect all the facts about the future electric hit. We tell why he is so cool (not really), and why he is waiting for popularity all over the world (maybe). Go!

Tesla 3 will cost only $ 35,000

Let’s start with the main thing. The starting price for Model 3 is 35 thousand dollars (excluding taxes), that is, at the current rate of 1.97 million rubles. How much is this dynamic 5-seater sedan with autopilot?

For comparison, the Russian prices for the base version of the Mercedes-Benz C start from 2.15 million rubles, the starting models of the BMW 3 and Audi 4 with an “automatic” cost from 2 million rubles.

Tesla 3 faster than German competitors

The compact Tesla Model 3 accelerates to “hundreds” in just 5.6 seconds . It seems insanely long (sarcasm), against the background of the top-end Tesla Model S P100D, which has simply stunning acceleration dynamics – up to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds.

If we compare the German three, the Tesla Model 3 will make any of them with a traffic light. Audi 4 Sport 2.0 TFSI quattro S tronic (2.58 million rubles) accelerates to “hundreds” in 5.8 seconds, the BMW 330i xDrive (2.55 million rubles) needs the same time, but the Mercedes-Benz C 200 4MATIC (2.68 million rubles) will reach 100 km / h in only 6.8 seconds. So it goes.

Tesla Model 3 power reserve more than competitors

Built-in batteries “budget” allow you to travel from the “gas station” to the “gas station” 350 km. The figure, of course, is not amazing. On the Tesla S model, you can easily get from London to Paris without refueling (470 km).

On the one hand, any gasoline-powered car is capable of driving a greater distance (unless the pedal is drowned on the floor), on the other hand, the cost of these gas stations is incomparable (without the condition of replacing the battery in the future).

True, saving here is important not for the owner’s budget, but for the future of the planet.

By the way, the owners of Tesla Model 3 will be forced to pay for recharging at the branded Supercharger stations, for the “refueling” of Tesla S and Tesla X the fee is not charged.

In Tesla Model 3 there will be an autopilot, for money

Autopilots in cars are slowly becoming commonplace.

Back in the fall of 2015, Tesla Motors began to introduce the option of semi-autonomous driving. In the winter of 2016, Elon Musk announced grandiose plans for three years to create a car that can drive from Los Angeles to New York without a driver. It was, rather, about a new firmware in the software, than really about a new model of the company.

With every new update, Tesla cars are getting smarter. Model 3 will not be an exception in terms of autopilot. True, a full-fledged option will be available at an additional cost.

Nevertheless, the electric car will definitely be able to park on its own , without any human involvement. This is already commonplace, envy the owners of the cars of the “big German three”, and everyone else too.

Tesla Model 3 will be equipped with one touch monitor

The 17-inch touch screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 installed in the Tesla S is admired and respected by the engineers and programmers of the American company. He set a high standard of quality, logic and ergonomics of the interface. Premium and convenience!

In the younger Tesla model will be installed a single central 15-inch touch screen. All information, including instrument readings, will be displayed on it.

Elon Musk explains this decision as follows:The more autopilot the car has, the less the driver needs to look at the instruments. How often do you look at the dashboard when driving in a taxi?

The decision is controversial and not all motorists will like it.

Tesla Model 3 will disappoint ascetic interior

The interior of the Model 3 is very modest and simple.

For example, there are no familiar air ducts. The interior ventilation will be carried out using subtle openings in the interior panels. In addition, the steering wheel of the car will be equipped with only two control keys (I wonder what?). Perhaps steering wheels with the usual number of buttons will be offered optionally.

Elon Musk himself on his Twitter suggests simply waiting for the final version of the steering wheel, which, according to him, is akin to the space one.

Model 3 will be available with a very small number of additional options ( less than 100! ), For comparison, Model S offers customers over 1,500 different configurations. In the new product it will not be possible to order such things as an electric trunk, an aluminum body, adaptive air suspension and automatically sliding door handles.

The Germans are laughing.

The future has come

What are the prospects for the Tesla Model 3 to become a truly folk electric car? In our country, no so far. Unfortunately, the cost of an electric car in Russia will be one and a half to two times higher than the starting price. In addition, the infrastructure of power plants is absent as a class.

Only at the end of this year  Tesla Motors will come to Russia . An official representative office and a car dealership should appear. After that, the deployment of a large-scale network of branded Supercharger charging stations will begin. Just in time for this, the Tesla Model 3 will begin shipping to pre-order customers.

Maybe it’s time to save money in order to enter a bright future on an autopilot electric car? Just yesterday it seemed like a fantasy, very soon everything would completely change.

The Silicon Valley car company intends to start producing 5 thousand Tesla Model 3 per week until the end of the year, and 10 thousand in 2018.

The future is coming. Elon Musk led the offensive.
